Frankie Grayson is twelve. He is not a detective, super athlete, oddball, or rebel. He expects no heroics from within and looks to no superheroes from without. Frankie Grayson is ordinary. He plays soccer adequately, sometimes better; he does homework, mostly; and he treats his friends pretty much the way he expects to be treated. He's going through a lot of changes, but some of them are private and he doesn t' want to talk about that stuff. But Frankie, the loquacious here of Emilia D'Andrea Nichols in her heartfelt novel, does not want to talk about the divorce he thinks is imminent. Something is not right between his mom and dad. His two best friends are both kids with divorced parents, and are grappling with stepfathers and stepsisters. Divorce stuff is everywhere. Frankie is about to panic when his dad is out of town, his mother's birthday is about to turn into a disaster, and his best friend won't talk to him. Can Frankie save his mom and dad? Can he save himself? The ending will surprise you it certainly surprised Frankie. His fears and wishes will not allow him to give up believing in what he wants in order to find answers for himself.
